If you’re feeling tired, overworked, overwhelmed and just plain stressed out lately then a Self Care Sunday may be just what you need.

Do you run yourself rampant all week never allowing downtime and then do the same thing by completely booking up your weekends? Sunday has always been known as the day to relax, but with busy lifestyles that isn’t always the case anymore.

Sunday should be a time to rejuvenate! Self Care Sunday doesn’t have to mean an all day pamper session, even though that would be nice ! It can just be one thing that you do to help you feel refreshed, relaxed or peaceful and get your set for the week ahead.

Self Care Sunday Ideas

Keep A Gratitude Journal

This is one of my favorite things to do. Make a list of the things you are grateful for from that week. Keep a daily journal if you can. It could be something as simple that your kids played well at sports that day or you enjoyed going out with friends. You will love looking back over the years at all those little moments that brought you joy.

It’s easy to get caught up and a gratitude journal forces you to calm down and really count your blessings and see things from a clearer perspective. It will change your whole outlook.

Call A Friend or Loved One

Today phone conversations are becoming more and more rare as text messaging has completely taken over. Nothing can replace an actual conversation and talking with a loved one or laughing with a friend. Even if it’s just a 5 minute check in, it can change your day as well as theirs.

Unplug

Make a commitment to be on your phone less. Not only is it sucking precious minutes from our life, it can create stress. Take one day to unplug and stay off of email and social media for the majority of the day. It will reduce anxiety and free up more time to do things you love

Get Outside

Depending on the weather, try to get outside for some fresh air. It does wonders for you mentally. Take a walk down the street or just sit outside on the patio and take a few minutes to be still.

Have a Cup of Tea

Tea is know to be calming and relaxing. Have an herbal cup of tea mid afternoon or before bed to help relax you. If tea isn’t your thing, then maybe it’s your favorite latte. Sit and enjoy it.

Do a Face Mask

If you want healthy and glowing skin and face mask once a week is ideal. Whether it’s a DIY or store bought take 20 mins to pamper your skin and start the week off glowing

Don’t you love how a new mani /pedi looks. It just makes your feel stylish and makes you feel clean and put together! If you don’t have time to paint your nails just file them and do a clear gloss. That’s enough to give you a polished look and make you feel good:)

Take a Long Bath

Wash and Style Your Hair

So this may sound silly , but to the girls with thick and wavy hair you know what I’m talking about. Sunday nights are always a good night to wash my hair. My hair takes a little longer than normal and I can only wash it a few times a week. I feel so much better after I have had the time to properly dry it and straighten it. You can read more about my straightening routine here that cut styling time in half!

Take some time to do your hair so that you don’t have to worry about it Monday morning!

Apply that Self Tanner

This is one of my least favorite things to do because it takes a little TLC. You can’t rush through this. That’s why Self Care Sunday is the perfect time to do this! Take your time shaving and exfoliating your body to get it primed for the tanner. Apply your tanner and while it dries cuddle up with your favorite book.

Then you are all set for the week ahead and will be happy that you took the time to do it. I have my eye on these top rated tanners. I will let you know when I officially have results to share!

Watch Your Favorite Show or Go to the Movies

Depending on what day looks like, catch up on a show you missed during the week or watch a movie with your spouse or family. If you can escape to see a movie even better. A change of scenery may be just what you need.

Spend Time with The Family

Whether it’s playing outside with the kids, riding bikes, going to a park, baseball game or playing a board game together, family time is so important. Being with your loved ones and laughing can lift your spirits and is a great way to end a busy and chaotic week.

Exercise

15-30 mins of stretching or exercise will boost your endorphins and give you you energy. It doesn’t have to be a full intense workout. A quick routine, yoga or stretching is at least doing something. You can also play sports with the family or go bike riding or hiking for some outdoor exercise. You need it for your mind and body to function at it’s best and you will always feel better after!

Meal Prep for the Week Ahead

Think about what you want to have for your meals that week and prep as much as you can. While this doesn’t seem relaxing, in the end it will be because it will take more off your plate during the week. This all fits into self care because if you plan your meals you are less likely to reach for junk when you’re too tired or too busy to cook.

Change your Sheets!

I know. It seems like more work, but I promise when you change your sheets and crawl into a fresh clean bed at night that is self care. And if you don’t have one already I highly recommend a silk pillowcase! It’s makes you feel like your being pampered every night..Soooo good for your hair and for wrinkle prevention. This is the one I use and I talk about HERE

Use Your Essential Oil Diffuser Or Light Your Favorite Candle

Set your essential oil diffuser with relaxing and calming scents like lavender and eucalyptus. Start that early in the evening and you will be all relaxed and ready to hop into bed with your clean sheets! If you don’t have a diffuser then take a look at the two below.

This little pineapple diffuser is just too cute. Love it!

I just bought this diffuser and absolutely love it. It’s nice and quiet and the design is so pretty.

A diffuser is also good for your skin as it adds moisture in the air and your skin needs moisture to keep it looking healthy.

Have a Really Delicious Meal

If time allows, plan a special breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now is the time to try out a new recipe or indulge in one of your favorite meals. I never hold back on the weekends. Pick one meal to treat yourself and allow for dessert too! Then you will be more likely to to make healthy choices all week long.

Do What You Love

This is different for each of us because some things may seem like a chore. Maybe you love to plant flowers, garden, organize, purge the closets, bake for someone, go shopping, listen to music. The list is endless. Try to fit a little time in for something you enjoy doing to free your mind and release any stress or anxiety that you may be carrying with you from a busy week.

While you may not be able to block off a large chunk of time, even if you can do a few of these Self Care Sunday ideas you will be definitely feel more refreshed and energized which should mean you will start Monday off on the right foot! The important thing it to pick at least one thing to do for yourself!

Some of these ideas may not seem relaxing to you at all and that’s ok! We are all different and this list is just to get you thinking about how you can pamper yourself or give your mind that little extra calmness it needs when you’re coming off an exhausting week.
